Krondorf

Krondorf’s story is one of love, faith and hope. Those were the three values held by the Silesian settlers who established the village of Krondorf in the Barossa Valley in 1847. The settlers left a lasting impression on the area’s architecture, farmlands and vineyards, and they pioneered a winemaking tradition that continues to this day.
In the 1970s, the Krondorf label was officially created, and soon made wine lovers take notice with bold, fruit-forward wines that captured acclaim and accolades. Today, under the stewardship of experienced winemakers Nick Badrice and Richard Quodling, Krondorf has experienced a revival – reigniting the passion for great small-batch winemaking, and rediscovering the spirit of those early settlers.
Krondorf’s future is looking bright, with a number of acclaimed ranges currently showcasing the results of the label’s enviable vintage resources, including old Barossa vines and lasting relationships with local family growers. Discover the fantastic flavours and lasting legacy of Krondorf wines, made as always with love, faith and hope.
A history of excellence
The Krondorf collection
The story of Krondorf began in 1847, with a small group of Silesian settlers, family plots of grapevines, and shared values of love, faith and hope. Those little vineyards helped lay the foundation for what the Barossa is today. Our Winemakers range honours the Krondorf legacy with these fresh and modern wines that exemplify what the Barossa region has to offer.
The founders of Krondorf village farmed small plots, where vines grew among produce, orchards and livestock. In the 1890s, the Glenview winery was founded, which overlooked these little farms. This winery became the engine room of Krondorf wines. Honouring this history, this range of wines is a result of long-term partnerships with exceptional and often multi-generational Barossa growers.
The Old Salem Barossa Shiraz takes its name from the Old Salem Lutheran Church, which was built with humble claystone in 1856. The church was destroyed in the flood of 1946, but it lives on in the memorial stone laid in our neighbouring vineyard and in the grapes harvested from it, which are incorporated with carefully selected premium grapes from other longstanding Barossa family growers to create this distinctive Barossa shiraz.
At the foot of the iconic Kaiserstuhl mountain, the early Silesian settlers of the Barossa constructed a stone altar – a sanctuary for prayer in their new homeland. Our Krondorf Stone Altar Grenache is a tribute to the settlers’ resourcefulness and resilience, which helped these old vines thrive.
By 1850, Krondorf village comprised 121 Settlers and their families. These 121 souls formed the beginning of a new community that shaped the future of the Barossa Valley. Their spirit is remembered through the rare, meticulously selected old vine vineyards with vine age of at least 35 years. Typically, these grapes are intensely flavoured and concentrated, with a fine natural and elemental balance, supple tannin quality and integrated acidity.
