Josef Chromy

Josef Chromy is one of the most renowned wineries in Tasmania. Producing exceptional, cool-climate wines and méthode traditionnelle sparklings they showcase the unique terroir of the Tamar Valley region.
Chief Winemaker Ockie Myburgh and the team aim to produce wines of simple purity and elegance, wines with intense flavour and a refreshing structure and natural balance.
At Josef Chromy we strive to get balance and elegance first and foremost.
The wine is intrinsically linked with the terroir of the site and that should show in the bottle.
Working exclusively with cool climate varieties, we aim to fully express their delicate aromatics, always in harmony with a richness of texture and layered complexity.
Intensity of flavour and natural crisp acidity of the grapes is critical – it is a matter of getting it right in the vineyard all year round and choosing the perfect picking window to capture their essence.
All of our equipment is carefully selected to ensure gentle handling in the winery. We aim to ensure the integrity and delicate characteristics of the fruit are maintained. This is our commitment to quality and our winemaking philosophy.

Wines produced under the Josef Chromy label showcase the varietal expression of our cool climate vineyard. Elegant, subtle, and complex, these wines will reward cellaring or provide great accompaniment to food now.
This range is the pinnacle of winemaking at the estate. Only exceptional parcels of wine in the best of years are reserved for the Zdar label. These parcels are extremely limited. The name Zdar is a reference to the hometown of Josef Chromy in Czech Republic.
